Vintage Photographs of Manryu. One of the most popular Geisha in Japan during the last years of the Meiji-era - Early 20th Century

MANRYU (1897-1973. Real name, Shizu Tamukai) was one of the most popular Geisha during the last years of the Meiji-era (until 1912), and probably into the early years of the Taisho period. Not only popular in Tokyo, but in all Japan, as she was one of the few, original advertising poster girls for all kinds of products in her day.
